Coconut vegetable oil is ideal for owners and carers who want to make their own external care products.

It's a natural ingredient that's affordable, non-photosensitising, keeps well and has a practical consistency. The oil is solid at room temperature and melts when applied to the skin.

Coconut oil can also be added for a few days to the ration if there is a risk of colic.

Examples of use:

  • Skin and mane care
  • Protective barrier against insects in sensitive areas (around the udder, genitals, etc.)
  • Support for active ingredients: essential oils, sulphur, etc.

Fighting insects

Essential oils and coconut oil are miscible. Use coconut oil to make a greasy cream to combat lice, ticks and flat flies.

Skin and mane care

This melting oil is easy to apply to manes and hair. It's colourless and won't stain the coats of light-coloured horses.

You can safely use this edible product to shine your horse's lips and nostrils before a show or competition.

Dispersing active products

Coconut oil is perfect as a carrier for dispersing certain active ingredients purchased from pharmacies. It is more suitable than an emulsion if you want to limit the penetration of the preparation in order to keep the active ingredients on the surface.

Usage externe

Appliquer sur une peau propre, hydratée et préalablement séchée.

Cosmétique DIY

  1. Chauffer l'huile de coco afin de la rendre liquide.
  2. Mélanger avec les autres ingrédients et laisser refroidir.
  3. Les huiles essentielles s'incorporent à la plus faible température permettant de maintenir l'huile liquide, ceci afin de préserver leurs actifs.

Usage interne

Vous pouvez chauffer l'huile de coco (sans aller jusqu'à la cuire) pour enrober la ration d'une couche grasse chez les chevaux à risque de colique.

Attention, les huiles et l’argile ne doivent pas être ingérées simultanément car elles peuvent former des bouchons lorsqu’on les distribue ensemble.
